Max Coppoolse: Chairman

Mr. Max Coppoolse serves as the Managing Director of African Health Systems Management. Mr. Coppoolse served as Managing Director of Investment Fund for Health in Africa. He worked at Unilever for 11 years and was responsible for the implementation of the restructuring for the Unilever meat/soup and tinned food group in the Netherlands.

Mr. Coppoolse has experience in reorganizing companies in Africa and was a team leader of an international team which reorganized United Africa Company (UAC) based in Lagos Nigeria. He joined KPN in 1990 as a General Manager Business and Mobile Communication and was responsible for a turnover 600 million Euros per year and oversaw 7000 employees. He served at Phillips from 1993 to 1998 in various functions, ranging from Chief Executive Officer of Phillips Malaysia to General Manager of two media subsidiaries of Phillips.

In 2000, he joined Vodafone, where he served as a Director Special Projects. Since 2003, Mr. Coppoolse served as the Chief Operating Officer of PharmAccess Foundation and was responsible for all operations of PharmAccess Foundation. He has extensive experience in the health sector in Africa. He serves as a Director of AAR Health Services Ltd. and AAR Holdings Limited. He graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a Master's degree in Industrial Psychology.

Rajeev Bhandari: Director

Rajeev Bhandari joined Hygeia Nigeria Limited in November 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer of Lagoon Hospitals and brings with him over 21 years of extensive sales, marketing, strategy, distribution, and operations expertise across industries. A large portion of this time has been spent in identifying new markets and building businesses across India.
Rajeev comes to Lagoon from Fortis Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare chains in India with worldwide interests, and has been with the group since 2011 where he was the Facility Director of a 210-bedded hospital in Delhi NCR, India, where his major achievements include overhauling relationships with clinicians, employees and the community, setting in place processes and formulating a successful marketing and sales strategy.

Prior to joining Fortis, Rajeev co-founded a healthcare start-up called WellScience that was creating, manufacturing, marketing and selling natural, plant-based health supplements and served as its Chief Operating Officer where he was responsible for leading the sales, marketing and operations of the company.

He has also had stints in non-healthcare firms such as Oriflame, Modicare, Level Up and Times Internet, and has greatly benefited from the varied experiences these opportunities have offered.

Rajeev is an alumnus of one of India’s premier boarding schools, the Lawrence School, Sanawar and he holds a Masters’ degree in International Business from Ecole Nationale de Ponts et Chausees, Paris, France.

Mrs Fola Laoye: Director

Mrs. Fola Laoye is the immediate past Chairman of Hygeia Nigeria Limited. She is a graduate of University of Lagos (BSc Accounting, 1990) and qualified as an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales in 1995 and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 1997. She trained with Coopers & Lybrand, UK (now PricewaterHouseCoopers) from 1991 to 1995 and worked with the Corporate Finance Unit of First Securities Discount House ('FSDH') from 1995 to 1997.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. She has been instrumental in charting the growth strategy of Hygeia for several years

Pieter Zuijdgeest: Director

Pieter Zuijdgeest also serves as CFO for the Investment Funds for Health in Africa (IFHA). With over 25 years of experience as a financial and operations executive, Pieter has detailed knowledge of finance, acquisitions, divestments, IT and management. Prior to joining IFHA, Pieter has been an entrepreneur for the past 8 years owning an IT & Telecommunications company with 100 employees and financed by a UK based venture capital fund. During this period he acquired five and divested 3 companies; the company was successfully sold in 2008. More recently he served as a CFO of a large Dutch ICT & Telecom group and CEO of a software development company.

Prior to this he served as a Partner of the Consulting Service Practice of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and the Global Consulting practice of Ernst & Young Consulting where he focused on the implementation of ERP and CRM service solutions worldwide. Previously, he served as Finance Director for Lanier Europe, a Ricoh company and Senior Manager of international audit practice of Ernst & Whinney and Moret Ernst & Young. Pieter completed the chartered accountant study at NIVRA (Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants) in 1986.

Yann Pambou: Director

Yann joined Swiss Re Direct Investment in 2014 as the Head of Africa for Private Equity and Strategic Acquisitions, taking on responsibility for originating, executing and managing transactions throughout Africa. Prior to that, Yann founded and is currently the Chairman of Africa Bridge investment Partners, an investment holding company that focuses on star-up and early stage companies, currently holding a portfolio of 5 companies. He had earlier worked as a Principal at Actis, based in Lagos State, Nigeria, covering West Africa transactions. Yann started his career at KPMG as a Consultant in New York.

Yann holds an MBA from Wharton Business School and an Engineering Degree from Ecole Centrale de Paris, obtained with honours.

Mr. Biju Mohandas: Director

Mr Mohandas has several years of operating and investing experience across multiple emerging markets in India and Africa. His investment experience includes equity, quasi equity and debt transactions, distressed asset turnarounds and PPPs across healthcare, agribusiness and renewable energy sectors. Before IFC, Mr Mohandas was the East Africa Director of Acumen fund and was responsible for their East Africa related investments, operations and business development activities. Additionally, he has an MBA from the Indian School of Business majoring in analytical finance and also served in the Indian Army.

Helene Echevin: Director

Helene Echevin holds a degree in Food Sciences and Technology from Polytech Engineering School, Montpellier, France and followed Management Executive Program at INSEAD. Helene was president of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2015-2016.

Helene joined CIEL Group in March 2017 as Chief Officer – Operational Excellence after 17 years of working experience in similar position. Her main mission consists in supporting the consolidation and growth of CIEL’s global operations through the deployment of new principles and tools of operational excellence across the group. She is also heading the Healthcare cluster of the group.

Mr. Wole Adeleke: Director

Wole Adeleke is a graduate of Bayero University, Kano and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. A cement industry professional, he has held executive level management positions in AshakaCem Plc and Lafarge Cement Wapco Nigeria Plc, (subsidiary companies of Lafarge SA of France) and Dangote Cement Plc. He is currently an independent consultant to Lafarge Nigeria and serves on the Board of Aggreko Projects Limited, the Nigerian subsidiary of Aggreko Plc of United Kingdom, engaged in the rental and installation of large electric power generating sets. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Hygeia Nigeria Limited in April 2013.

Mrs Lanre Tunji-Sanusi: Director

Lanre joined Hygeia Nigeria Limited in 2013 as the Group Chief Financial Officer. She had served as the Chief Financial Officer of Helios Towers Nigeria Limited prior to this. Lanre has over 24 years’ experience in management consulting, corporate finance, investment banking and financial control and has worked at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Denham Management Limited where she served as the Team Lead on the restructuring and merger of 2 conglomerates on the Nigeria Stock Exchange and the establishment of a billion Naira Global Investment Fund. In recent years, she focused on financial control and strategy and been closely involved in the development and execution of business strategy in multi-billion Naira corporations.

Her key responsibilities include setting up of accounting systems, policies and structures; financial analysis and reporting; equity and debt financing; negotiating with financial institutions; fiscal & tax management; treasury management and planning, budgeting and forecasting.

She has held senior finance positions as Senior Vice President of Transnational Corporation, Finance Director of Food Concepts & Entertainment Limited and the Finance Director of Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals (Nigeria & East Africa Region) where she also served as Managing Director and Human Resources Director.
She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a 1st prize winner (of all stages) of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and holds an MBA from Imperial College, University of London (specializing in new ventures). She graduated with a 2.1 in BSc Accounting from University of Lagos.

She was appointed Executive Director in 2017.
